Alice H. (Higby) Hermanson

Alice Hermanson, age 91 of Girard, died peacefully in the warmth of her home on Thursday, April 9, 2020.

She was born on January 22, 1929, the daughter of the late Leonard and Thelma (Bowman) Higby in Meadville, PA.  She lived a wonderful and full life.  After graduating from the Saegertown High School in 1947, she studied secretarial studies at Erie Business School where she obtained her Associates Degree.  She started out her working career at the Meadville High School as an Assistant Librarian and also worked at Talon Manufacturing and then went on to work at Lord Manufacturing where she worked as a secretary until she retired.  She enjoyed  sewing, golf, travel, camping, painting, and making greeting cards for her family.

Besides her parents, Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Richard L. Hermanson, a daughter-in-infancy, Mary Beth Staab; daughter-in-law, Joanie Staab; two sisters, Rachel Michelotti and Edith McElhaney; and three brothers, Donald, Eugene, and Leonard Higby, and a sister-in-law, Grace Higby.

Alice is survived by her daughters, Susan Leguard (Timothy) of Meadville, Pa, Wendy Strohmeyer (Richard) of Palmer, AK;  Melissa Staab of Meadville; and sons, Robert Staab (Kathy) of Ocklawaha, FL; Craig Staab of Meadville; Richard and Jeff Hermanson both of Girard, Pa and nine grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren.

There will be no calling hours or services as were Alice’s wishes.
