Barbara Jane McCallum

December 3, 1927 — December 8, 2015

Barbara Jane McCallum, age 88, was carried home on angel’s wings on Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at her home with her family around her. 

 Barb was born on Dec. 3, 1927 the daughter of the late, Herman T. and Elizabeth T. (Larned) Kerr in Pittsburgh, Pa.  She spent her formative years between Greensburg and Latrobe, Pa.  In her freshman year of high school, she contracted rheumatic fever.  The family relocated to Berkely, California where the weather was much better for her.  She had a grand time in High School and she even managed a few semesters in college even while dealing with health issues.

She spent four years in the Navy Reserves.  She and her husband, Floyd L. McCallum who passed away in 1994 and their children traveled the United States.  Moving every 6-9 months due to her husband’s military service schedule.

 Barb was a top-notch bookkeeper and was able to procure a job wherever she went.  She managed stores, bars, fence companies, farms, hospitals and nursing homes.  Barb spread love and Joy wherever she went.  She was a mom and friend to untold numbers of people.  She was a member of the West Springfield United Methodist Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir and greeting people.  She was nicknamed “GiGi”.

 Barbara is survived by a son, Kevan McCallum, Sr. and his wife, Libbie and two daughters:  Gayle Vader and Debby Hupp and her husband, Billy; and eight brandchildren:  Shannon, Karl, Kevan, Jr., Chad, Kurt, Bonnie, Andrew, and Benjamin.  She is also survived by 13 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

 There will be no services or calling hours for Barbara as per her request.  Barbara loved life to the fullest and was very proud and humbled at the same time about her life and her family and loved ones.  If you would like to make a memorial in Barbara’s Memory, she requests that you make it to the Veteran’s Wounded Warriors  Foundation.
