Billie (Dolores Davies) Ward passed away with family by her side at St. Mary’s, Asbury on Wednesday, September 28, 2022. She was born April 26,1934 in Erie, Pennsylvania. Billie was the beloved wife of Jim Ward, to whom she was married for 63 years.
Billie graduated from Academy High School and went on to attend Erie Business Center. In 1958 Billie was employed in the Continuing Education Department at Penn State’s Behrend Campus. It was there that she met her lifelong love and future husband- Billie and Jim married on June 20, 1959. They made their home in East Springfield where they raised their two children- Andrew and Amy.
Billie was an active volunteer and member of the Federated Church in East Springfield. She also worked for many years part-time in floral design.
Billie loved flower gardening, decorating her home and crafting. She enjoyed collecting shells from over twenty years of winter-time visits to Treasure Island Florida. Walking the sandy beach in January, searching for shells with her grandchildren was a favorite activity. We could say more but Billie disliked flowery obituaries.
Billie is survived by her husband Jim of 63 years. Her son Andrew Ward (and Becky) of Conneaut, Ohio and her daughter Amy Ward Moody of Monkton, Vermont. Grandchildren include Amanda Ward Nagle (and Kevin), James D. Ward (and Allison), Michael Ward, Nicholas Ward, Justin Ward and Isabelle Moody, Margaret Moody, Katherine Moody and seven great-grandchildren, her sister Gerrie Elias and brother Richard Davies (and Barb), many nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank their many good friends for visits and support during Billie’s long illness with Alzheimer’s. The family is grateful for the exceptional care received from Wendy Gibbons while at home in E. Springfield, Comfort Keepers, St. Mary’s at Asbury, and AseraCare Hospice Services for their kindness.
