Clair Woodson Bates "Butch"

Clair W. Bates, known by many as "Butch", age 63 of Erie, Pennsylvania, died peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, April 12, 2017.

 Clair was born in Erie, Pa. on November 27, 1953, the son of the late Ralph and Alice (Donahue) Bates.  He worked as a roofer for many years at different places.  His most recent employment was Mark’s Construction.  Clair enjoyed camping, hunting, and fishing, listening to country music and playing darts.

 Besides his parents, Clair was preceded in death by two sisters; Bernice Santana and Rose Potter.

 He is survived by his significant other, Annette Eliason of Erie, Pa; and daughters; Alyssa Bates, Patricia Bates, both of Erie, Pa., and Brianna Bates of Mayville, NY. and three sons; Aaron Sutton, Clair Bates, Jr., and Michael Bates all of Erie, Pa.   A step-daughter; Jocelynn Eliason and a step-son; Jordan Eliason, both of Erie, Pa. He is survived by a sister; Kathy Bates Daub of Erie, Pa and two  brothers; Jack Bates of North East, Pa., and Richard Bates of Waterford, Pa..  Also, Grandchildren Joshua, Casey, Zackery, Aleah, Luckas, Erica, April, and Harper, and a Great-Granddaughter; Ada.

There will be no calling hours or services for Mr. Bates.
