Dolores Alva Carrier

August 23, 1930 — December 9, 2016

Dolores Alva Keth Carrier died at her home in North Springfield, PA on December 9, 2016 of the blood disorder, Myelodysplastic Syndrome.

She was born in Summerville, PA on August 23, 1930, daughter of the late Merle Wilbur Keth and late Alva Louella Carrier and had resided in North Springfield for over 30 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, William "Ike" Carrier,  and survived by seven children, Carla Dawn Carrier of Erie, Mark Allan Carrier of Bellingham, WA, Terry Leigh Carrier Blood of East Springfield, William Ivan Carrier Jr of Chehalis, WA, Dolores Michele Carrier of Erie, James Robert Carrier of North Springfield and Kimberly Lynn Carrier Lowe of Erie. She was the grandmother of nine and had seven great and two great, great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and other extended family.  Her brother, Clifford Merle Keth survives in Limestone Township, PA.

Dolores was a graduate of Summerville High School and attended Dubois Business College. She was a homemaker while raising her family then, along with her husband Ike, co-owned and helped operate Carrier Insurance Agency in Albion, PA and their I-90 truck stop, Ike's Country Store in Fairview, PA.

She loved flower gardening and backyard bird watching. She cherished the home that she and Ike retired to near the shore of Lake Erie and the property offered rich opportunities for both activities.

Dolores identified above all else as a mother. Her family will attest that she excelled at this calling, instilling values that continue to serve all generations of her family to this day. She stated often that she was never happier than when she was rocking a baby. Her children cannot imagine happier childhoods or any better upbringing than they received from both of their parents.

Cremation was by the Jean Evans Thompson Funeral Home in East Springfield. Her family is honoring Dolores' wish that there be no service or memorial. In lieu of flowers they suggest that those wishing to remember Dolores may donate in her honor to The American Cancer Society.

Friends who have questions or wish to express their condolences may contact Dolores' oldest son, Mark at 360-345-6789 or mark@woodmerchant.com.
