Robert P. Barnes

Robert P. Barnes, age 74 of East Springfield, Pa., went home to be with the Lord on Monday, July 11, 2016 at St. Vincent Health Center, Erie, Pa.

Bob was born on September 23, 1941 to the son of the late Chester M. and Martha N. (English) Barnes in East Springfield, Pa.  After high school, he went into the U. S. Navy in 1960 where he learned to be a machinist.  When he came home he became a Pennsylvania State Trooper for the next 25 years.  In 1990 when he retired, he decided that he wanted to keep working, so he went to work at Spectrum in Erie where he could put his machinist skills to use.  He finally retired after another five years and decided it was time to enjoy his retirement.

Bob was a very active person.  In his younger days, he obtained his Eagle Scout rank in the Boy Scouts and in the summers he helped out at Camp Sequoia in North Springfield.  (This was a Boy Scout Camp that is no longer in operation.)  In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, riding his Harley, and playing Texas Hold-Em whenever he could. 

Bob is survived by his wife, Wanda R. (McCamman) Barnes and a son, Robert C. Barnes (Angel) of Albion, Pa., and three daughters; Kristin L. Schroll of Lawrence Park, Pa., Robin E. Dailey of Erie, Pa., and Renee Heberle (Larry) of Bay Village, OH; and a sister, Connie Wallace of Warren, Pa.  He is also survived by several grandchildren.

Family and friends are invited to call at the Jean Evans Thompson Funeral Home, 11883 Main Street, East Springfield, Pa on Thursday evening, July 14, 2016 from 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to attend Life Celebration Services at the funeral home on Friday morning at 11 a.m. with Pastor Ed Huntley of the Federated Church, officiating.  Burial will follow at Springfield Cemetery.

The family requests that memorial donations may be made In Memory of Robert Barnes to either the Federated Church,  Main Street, East Springfield, Pa. Or to the Regional Cancer Center, 2550 W. 12th Street, Erie, Pa.
