Ruby M. (Whitmore) Johnson

Ruby Johnson’s favorite Bible verse was John 3:16; for she knew God loved her and was preparing a place for her in heaven with Him. She entered heaven’s gates on January 15, 2022 after a long and painful battle with rheumatoid arthritis.

She was born in Conneaut, Ohio on March 15, 1944, the daughter of the late James D. and Arlene (Summerville) Whitmore, Sr. and stepmother, Phyllis Egner Whitmore on August 17, 2021.

Ruby graduated from the Albion High School and worked for over 20 years at the Wayne County Jail in Detroit, Michigan as a Commissary Vendor. Her last wish was to come home to Springfield and live with her brother, Jim and his wife, Ellen; which she did in 2018.

Besides her parents, Ruby was preceded in death by her brothers: Jim Whitmore, Jr. recently on December 12, 2021, John Nathan, Thomas Edward, and Ronald Lee Whitmore; and a sister, Arlene Kubiak and a brother-in-law, Felix Burgos.

Ruby is survived by her dear sister, Beckie Burgos; and passed on Beckie’s 79th Birthday; her sister-in-law, Ellen Whitmore; two step-brothers; Gary Egner of Concord, OH and Keith (Teresa) Egner of St. Petersburg, FL and a Step-sister, Carol (Vince) Blancato also of Florida; friends, Gypsy Green and Sharon Patterson of Detroit, Betty (Edwin) Fuller, and her birthday buddy, Melvin Richards, along with several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held for Ruby on Saturday, April 23, 2022 at the Jean Evans Thompson Funeral Home. Calling hours will be observed from 11 am till 1 p.m., with the Life Celebration Memorial Service at 1 pm; combined with her dearly loved brother, Jim Whitmore; who passed December 12, 2021. Missionary David Whitmore and Pastor Brian Miller will officiate. Romans 10:9, 10, 13.
