Virgil Leroy Pettis, Sr.

Virgil L. Pettis, Sr., age 92 of Girard, Pa., died on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at Walnut Creek Nursing Home in Erie, PA.  He was born January 11, 1931 in Cambridge Springs, Pa., the son of the late Roe and Barb Pettis.

When Virgil was younger, he played the alto sax with the Cambridge Springs Community Orchestra for 15 years.

He is survived by three sons:  Virgil L. Pettis, Jr., of Albion; Daniel Lee Pettis and his wife, Sandy of Rockwell, TX; and Wesley Allen Pettis and his wife, Deborah of Albion.  He is also survived by three granddaughters:  Dawn Pettis Apperson of Madison, MS; Deanna Pettis of Girard, Pa.; and Amy Pettis of Pittsburgh, Pa.  Virgil was blessed with seven great-grandchildren:  Alexa Anne and Elijah Roy Apperson of Madison, MS; David Pettis of Cranesville; Jonathan, Austin and Brianna Kinney of Girard; and Scarlett Rose Pettis of Pittsburgh.

Family and Friends are invited to call at the Jean Evans Thompson Funeral Home, 11883 Main Street, East Springfield, Pa. on Sunday, October 1, 2023 from 7 to 9 p.m.  Virgil will be laid to rest in Springfield Cemetery next to his wife, Eileen Pettis who preceded him on Oct. 7, 2007.
